Mind you we just came from a scene where Alex got pecked by two girls with no reciprocation, but the minute Henry has his hand's in his hair Alex's first instinct is to kiss back.

Sevika protecting Isha (and my feelings below):
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think the most heartbreaking, yet endearing, part of this whole scene, is that Sevika only has one arm.
in holding onto Isha, she renders herself defenseless. she has no clue what she's running into, but she won't put Isha down. she runs blind and unable to quickly fight back with her remaining arm.
and she doesn't give Isha a chance to run on her own. she just holds her. doesn't get angry when she fights her. doesn't scold her. just holds her tighter. and keeping a squirmy kids still is hard enough with two arms, let alone a kid fighting you as hard as she can with just one.
and she's soft with her, just in general. none of that normal tug and sharpness we're used to seeing. she's of course fighting her enough to keep her from slipping out of her grasp, but that's it.
I just. I'm not normal about them.

so my mom's going thru a divorce (from her husband) (i hate him) (it's messy) and she's been seeing her ex again (i like him) who she broke up with due to alcoholism (ran vodka thru the brita filter) (the brita filter i drank from) (water) (i was 9) but she just texted me (with a phone) (photo message) that he bought me a bond (money) for my fourth birthday (small child) (didn't know what a saving's account was) (i'm turning 32 in a month) (28 years ago) and now (current) i get to find out (learn) how much interest a $100 (dollar) (usd) bond (from the government) can accrue in 28 years (a long time)

What hits me some days is Stan and Ford have never processed the fact their father was emotionally (if physically) abusive. No way you can tell me that Filbrick Pines wasn't at least emotionally neglectful.
Stan outright says his dad never threw catch with him. He created the footbot to experience the act of throwing catch. Ford refused to build it for him. A lot of his emotional issues stem from his damaged relationship with his dad. It's absolutely tragic, but what's worse is that as horrible as Filbrick was to him, Stan doesn't really look back on his dad negatively.
He sees his dad as a tough bricklayer who tried to toughen him up in the world. It doesn't come to him that his dad wronged him as a parent, y'know. The man kicked him out of their own home and disowned him for an accident, and there's still a measure of respect in Stan's voice when he talks about his dad. You can hear it.
We usually say Ford was the golden child, and while that may be true, probably is, that doesn't mean anything positive for Ford either. I highly doubt Filbrick was an attentive parent to Ford. He didn't care about Ford's academic success.
Tumblr media
Until this. "I'm impressed." Ford's absolute delight implies this isn't a regular occurrence, despite the numerous awards he's won over the years. It takes a school principal telling him that Ford may earn potential millions for Filbrick to demonstrate any pride in his son.
I wouldn't be surprised if Stan got more attention from Filbrick because he was always in trouble and probably increased his troublemaking so his father could give him attention. Ford just stayed on the side as the smarter, quieter kid.
From The Book of Bill, we can infer that Stanford didn't return home frequently, if at all. Bill lies. We know he lies. He also spits truths, especially when he aims to hurt you. He picks at your insecurities. Your dad won't want you coming home if you don't have millions. The fact Bill weaponized this tells me that not giving his family money, not being the millionaire his father wanted him to be definitely sits on Ford.
Stan wanted money to be welcome back into the family.
Ford knew money was the cost for his dad to value him, but he prioritized his passion for research over that. Even so, the decision haunts him.
Crazy thing is Filbrick has probably been dead for 20+ years, and his abuse of his children lingers in them as 60 something year old men. They still don't realize it. They can't even contextualize that their father was abusive, and that hurts me. That's so sad.

The only thing missing for Ned to be a real mother screwed by the narrative is the dead mother's hairstyle.

She was wild and vivid in a cautious and pale world. Always burning a little more brightly than any of us around her. Then I remembered a story written by Henry James. It was the story of a young girl named Isabel. A girl who was as brave as she was beautiful, who was pure of heart and as unafraid to love. His description of Isabel mirrored that of Carolyn and I wondered out loud how it was possible for him to have known her when he wrote that story over a century ago. But, I suppose, it was because he was writing about his dream of a pure and brave American girl, who comes along maybe once every hundred years, if we are lucky. - Carole Radziwill in her eulogy for Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy, July 24, 1999

The parallel between Sokka and Tenzin as their fathers' sons.
Sokka, left at 13 as his father and all the other men head off to war. Hakoda tells him "being a man is knowing where he's needed the most" and he needs to protect his sister, his home.
Tenzin is the second airbender. He is also half water tribe, he's a man. When Aang dies, he will be the last airbender. He understands what he needs to do.
Untold amount of pressure and responsibility have been thrust upon them by their fathers. Though, I believe it is not all intentional, but the unfortunate circumstance of being the fathers of sons who take responsibility incredibly seriously.
In Sokka's case, "protect your sister" is a vague instruction. It was meant to give him purpose, to help him feel okay about being left behind, He is too young for war, his father does not want to bring his child to slaughter. But Sokka will die with purpose. He will train the children of his tribe so they will be protected, he will face a fire nation ship until his last breath. He cannot go to war, but Hakoda did not see that war was all around them. In trying to give Sokka purpose, Hakoda put their world on his shoulders.
We do not get to see Aang be a father (in the TV shows), but we know he had hopes for the future. All his children were air nomads, and the air acolytes brought his culture back, but Tenzin could bend. This part of their culture is one ONLY they share. I do not think Aang would hide this, he is joyous that he gets to share his culture. When he feels respected, he always is, he taught the air acolytes after all. Off handedly, he could say, "I'm hopeful for a future where there are lots more air benders," and that, which feels mostly innocuous to him, is the nail in the coffin of Tenzin's fate. He is Avatar Aang's son, and the future of the air benders. It would not matter that Aang meant a future in generations. Tenzin sees the responsibility and it's his. He is his father's only air bending child, he knows what he needs to do.
Being a parent is not understanding the way the things you say harm your children. Even those things that feel innocuous in the moment can be life altering. Especially the more the child respects the parent. Purpose and Hope for those with a broader perspective, can be death sentences to a life that could have been when expressed to those who idolize the former.

Every once in a while I remember that a random lady in my hometown bar looked at me with teary eyes and said "Thank you for everything you've been through. It made a beautiful spirit." and I get the urge to live another 8,000 years for her 😭
